Prices

Went out Thursday, went to Joann’s because my friend needed some things. She is a sewer. I am so not. LOL Anyway, I was tired and in pain and needed an energy boost. Checked the candy bars in the checkout line. 2.59 for a small almond snickers bar. 2.59. Did not buy. Went to Shaw’s after and the exact same bar was 1.59. Did not buy but not because of price. Everything else in Joann’s seemed excessively over-priced as well. Maybe this is why they declared bankruptcy. My friend mentioned that there were hardly any shoppers in there, either.

But then in Shaw’s, I was equally as appalled by the prices of a lot of things. How are people meant to feed their families, when greed is more important than anything else? I get why some things are more costly. Eggs, because of bird flu, products with flour, because a lot of it comes from the Ukraine, and they are kind of being decimated by Russia at the moment. But some things are just ridiculously overpriced.

And, here is an article I just came across:

Retailers jacked up prices and squeezed consumers. They might have just blinked (msn.com)

There are a lot of things I just don’t buy anymore, and there is only one local fast food place I still order from, because while they are more expensive than they were, it is not excessive, and the food is very, very good. They even make their own chicken soup, which I had while sick, and it was quite tasty. Even better the next day, too.

So greed is not good, in spite of what corporate America believes, and I hope they all pay the price for it, and soon.

SO WRONG

  1. My husband and I were just talking about this these past few days. People seem focused on gas prices which at least where we are don’t seem that bad. But groceries!?! I just splurged Friday and bought us blueberries. They’ve been too expensive to buy this spring. I really don’t know how families are managing. And preach: the corporations in this country enjoy all of the benefits without any of the costs. Criminal.

    • I do try to buy produce in season. When it’s blueberry season here, I stock up and freeze them. Same with strawberries. It’s easier when you live in a warmer climate where things are in season longer, or even year round. Unfortunately, I do not live in one of those places. :(

It really is criminal about the corporations. You can blame Reagan for this mess. Deregulation was his thing, meaning corporations can buy up their competition, among other really bad for us things. Not really a good idea, I think. Also, one company can buy up all the news outlets in an area, so you only get a very biased take on things. This used to be illegal, too.

      • Freezing is a great idea. Hopefully, prices on seasonal fruit will decrease some soon. I concur with you on Reagan. I think we can blame him for several things that we’re now paying for some 35+ years later.
