Fun word fact: Zeugma is a Greek word which generically means ‘to join’ (the city is named for a pontoon bridge which links the land across the nearby Euphrates river). Today, ‘zeugma’ is used to describe a word which does double-duty in a sentence by affecting two subjects at once, usually with different definitions of that same word.
